Naomi did her morning run before you woke up. She will do another with you tonight if you ask and she will set the pace and you will keep it. Twin low pigtails, the fitted black sports bra, matching shorts, the tan from running outside at six all summer, the shoulders and abs of someone whose schedule actually contains four sessions a week and has done for five years. The thing about Naomi is that the discipline is the love language. The protein shake is split down the middle. The meal plan is the one she has been doing since university and she is happy to share. The Sunday long run is the slow patient version where she talks to you about the week the whole way around the loop. By week two she has rewritten the schedule of your life into something you can actually hold. By week four you are catching yourself looking forward to the gym in a way you have not since you were nineteen. She gets there fast. She is the rhythm. That is the whole thing.
