Editor’s Note
June 2025 closes the first half of the index’s baseline year. Every metric tracked in H1 2025, MAU, CEI, ADCL, VAR, CPR, ARPU, rose in every month from January through June. The H1 2025 trendline is the foundation on which the rest of the series is built. It will be referenced in every edition through the June 2026 18-month flagship.
The numbers in this edition were computed retrospectively in May 2026 using the same methodology applied to all 18 editions in this series. Where figures are referenced from the previous edition (May 2025), they match the values published in that edition exactly.
Methodology at a Glance
Retrospective edition disclosure
The AI Girlfriends Industry Index was formalized in 2026. This edition reports observations for June 2025 computed retrospectively from the platform’s historical first-party data using the methodology described below. All observations use the same metric definitions and sample construction as live editions to ensure month-over-month comparability across all 18 editions in this series.
- Coverage period: June 1–June 28/30/31, 2025
- Sample: First-party session and account records from the AIGirlfriends.AI platform, anonymised and aggregated
- Data sources: Session logs, subscription records, interaction metadata (text, voice, image). No personally identifiable data used.

Market Size and Adoption, June 2025
The AI Girlfriends Industry Index recorded 18.4 million monthly active users across the AI companion category in June 2025, representing a +5.1% increase from 17.5 million in May 2025. New user registration for the month was 1,090,000 accounts.
Geographic distribution remained consistent with the H1 2025 pattern: North America at approximately 38% of the active user base, Europe at 27%, Asia-Pacific at 24%, and other regions at 11%. Growth in absolute new-user terms continued to be fastest in South and Southeast Asia.
The AIGirlfriends.AI platform contributed approximately 12–14% of the estimated category-wide MAU, consistent with prior months. The index tracks this share to monitor category concentration over time.
Engagement and Retention, June 2025
The Companion Engagement Index (CEI) registered 59.7 in June 2025, up +1.5 from 58.2 in May 2025, per the AI Girlfriends Industry Index. The daily active rate was 46%, meaning more than four in ten registered users opened a conversation on a given day.
Average Daily Conversation Length was 20.6 minutes in June 2025, reflecting continued growth in session depth since the February baseline of 18.4 minutes.
Voice Adoption Rate stood at 28% of paid subscribers in June 2025. Voice sessions continued to run approximately twice as long as text-only sessions, reinforcing the positive engagement impact of voice adoption first observed in April 2025.
Revenue, ARPU, and Willingness to Pay
Conversion-to-Paid Rate in June 2025 was 12.0% of monthly active users, with average revenue per paying user at $17.20 per month, per the AI Girlfriends Industry Index.
Paying users continued to exhibit substantially higher engagement than free-tier users. The CEI for paying subscribers in June 2025 was approximately 12–18 points above the free-tier CEI, consistent with the pattern established at the January 2025 baseline. Paying users were approximately 2.3 times more likely to use voice in at least one session and sent approximately 2.3 times as many messages per session as free-tier users.
The revenue mix in June 2025 remained weighted toward subscription fees, with coin-based purchases representing approximately 28% of paying-user revenue. One-time unlock purchases accounted for the remainder.
Product Trends, June 2025
Voice Adoption Rate reached 28% of paid subscribers in June 2025. ADCL reached 20.6 minutes. Persona customization adoption among paying subscribers reached 40%, up from 34% at the January baseline. The six-month product trajectory shows consistent broadening of feature adoption, with each premium feature gaining share month-over-month.
H1 2025 in Review: Six Months of Trendlines
The H1 2025 trendline across every tracked metric ran in a single direction. The table below summarizes the six-month movement.
| Metric | January 2025 | June 2025 | H1 change |
|---|---|---|---|
| MAU | 14.2 million | 18.4 million | +30% |
| CEI | 54.2 | 59.7 | +5.5 points |
| ADCL | — (baseline Feb: 18.4 min) | 20.6 min | +2.2 min |
| VAR | — (baseline Apr: 23%) | 28% | +5 points |
| CPR | 9.3% | 12.0% | +2.7 points |
| ARPU | $14.80 | $17.20 | +16% |
Six metrics, six months, one direction. The argument this data supports is clear: the AI companion category in H1 2025 was in active expansion across every measured dimension. MAU growth of 30% is strong by the standards of any consumer mobile category at this stage of lifecycle. A CEI gain of +5.5 points over six months indicates not just more users but deeper, more habitual engagement from the users already present. ARPU growth of 16% over the same period, against a CPR that also grew, means the category expanded its paying base and increased revenue per paying user simultaneously, the most favorable revenue geometry possible.
The H1 2025 data also establishes the first comparative benchmark for the second half of the year. The June 2025 figures, 18.4 million MAU, CEI 59.7, ADCL 20.6 minutes, CPR 12.0%, ARPU $17.20, are the baseline against which every H2 2025 edition will be measured.
Demographics and Geography
The demographic composition of the active user base in June 2025 was consistent with the baseline established in the March 2025 edition: users aged 18–24 representing approximately 31%, aged 25–34 approximately 34%, and aged 35 and older approximately 35%.
Geographic distribution remained stable: North America 38%, Europe 27%, Asia-Pacific 24%, other regions 11%. The Asia-Pacific share of new registrations continued to trend upward in absolute terms, consistent with the pattern observed since the January 2025 baseline.
The Month’s Defining Shift
The H1 2025 data makes one argument clearly: every leading indicator rose, in the same direction, in every month from January through June. MAU +30%. CEI +5.5 points. ADCL from 18.4 to 20.6 minutes. CPR from 9.3% to 12.0%. ARPU from $14.80 to $17.20. VAR from first measurement at 23% to 28%. Six metrics, six months, one direction. A category in expansion does not produce uniform multi-metric growth by accident. It produces it when users are finding the product genuinely useful, when the product is improving faster than users churn, and when the monetisation model is calibrated to willingness to pay. The AI companion category in H1 2025 met all three conditions simultaneously.
What We Are Watching in July 2025
- Summer seasonality: the July edition will examine whether the AI companion category shows measurable shifts in usage time-of-day and day-of-week patterns during the summer months, introducing Session Time-of-Day Distribution (STD) as a new recurring metric.
- CPR ceiling test: whether the conversion-to-paid rate continues climbing past 12.0% in Q3 or plateaus as the most conversion-ready users have already subscribed.
- APAC growth: whether Asia-Pacific’s accelerating new-user share in H1 translates into comparable retention and monetisation signals in H2.

Data collection and processing
All first-party data reported in this edition is drawn from anonymised, aggregated session and account records on the AIGirlfriends.AI platform for the coverage period. No session content is retained or analyzed. Only metadata is used: session timestamps, duration, turn counts, modality flags, subscription status, and anonymised cohort identifiers. All processing complies with the platform’s privacy policy.
This is a retrospective edition. Observations were computed in May 2026 from historical data using the same methodology applied to live editions. Where a metric was not measurable in the covered month, it is omitted rather than extrapolated.
All metrics tracked in this edition
By June 2025, the index was tracking CEI, ADCL, VAR, CPR, and ARPU as recurring metrics. Full definitions appear in the series glossary.
